Savannah Institute, AE-FUNAI Affiliate, Holds First Matriculation

The Savannah Institute of Technology, Abakaliki, an affiliate of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu Alike, Ebonyi State, has held its maiden matriculation ceremony, with 47 students admitted into various academic departments across three faculties: Faculty of Management Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences, and Faculty of Physical Sciences.

While speaking during the event, the Vice-Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, Professor Sunday Elom, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Professor Romanus Ejiaga, noted that the event was a milestone, which followed a recent memorandum of understanding between the university and Savannah Institute of Technology, which has the approval of the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The Vice Chancellor noted that the partnership was not merely administrative but a strategic collaboration intended to enhance academic quality, expand access to university education, and strengthen the relevance of academic programs to national development.

He emphasized that in line with NUC and JAMB guidelines, AE-FUNAI has ensured that the admitted students met the minimum academic requirements established by the university, adding that the freshmen were now part of the university community, known for its culture of seriousness, encouraging them to embody this culture in their studies while upholding the university’s core values of excellence, integrity, and entrepreneurship throughout their academic journey.

Professor Elom further emphasized that the matriculation was a significant ceremony during which the students agreed to abide by the university’s rules and regulations, geared towards enabling them to go through their academic activities seamlessly. 

The Vice-chancellor, also urged the students to attend lectures and practical classes regularly, make effective use of the library and other learning materials, and engage in healthy academic competition, contributing positively to the learning community to help build the institute.

Additionally, he highlighted the importance of the four departments—Accounting, Business Administration, Computer Science, and Economics, stating that they are critical for driving national and global development. He urged the freshmen to cultivate the habits of continuous learning, critical thinking, and ethical decision-making. 

The Director of the Savannah Institute of Technology, Dr. Kenneth Uwah, expressed gratitude for the presence of AEFUNAI management at the inaugural matriculation ceremony, and assured that the Institute is committed to quality and will uphold AE-FUNAI’s world-class standards. 

He further stated that the Savannah Institute of Technology would regularly consult AE-FUNAI for guidance and support, ensuring that the experiences gained at the institute would prepare students to seize opportunities on a global scale, urging the Vice-Chancellor to continue providing advice and mentorship, as the institute aims to be among the best in the country in terms of the quality of teaching and learning experience.

Dr. Uwah assured that the reputation of AEFUNAI would be maintained at all times, through excellence and professionalism in the discharge of the institute’s mandates in the coming years, in order to set it apart from other institutions.
