Sanwo-Olu Urges Lagos Employers to Provide Adequate Welfare for Corps Members

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has urged corps employers across the state to willingly accept National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to their establishments and provide them with adequate welfare and a conducive working environment.
Mr Sanwo-Olu represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende (RAK) made the call on Tuesday at the official closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream I Orientation Course held at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja, Agege area of Lagos.

“I appeal to all corps employers in the state to willingly accept corps members posted to their establishments and to ensure the provision of adequate welfare and a conducive working environment for them,” the governor said.

He noted that the cooperation of employers plays a critical role in the success of the NYSC scheme and the overall development of young Nigerians participating in the programme.
According to the governor, corps members should be seen as partners in development rather than temporary workers.

“Your postings should be viewed as opportunities to contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic and political development of Lagos State and Nigeria at large,” Mr Sanwo-Olu told the corps members.
The governor also urged the corps members to accept their postings in good faith and discharge their duties with discipline and patriotism.
Commending the corps members for their conduct during the three-week orientation exercise, Mr Sanwo-Olu described the programme as peaceful and hitch-free.
He reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to the welfare, safety and security of corps members serving in the state, assuring that outstanding performers would be recognised and rewarded at the end of the service year.
“Your welfare, particularly your safety and security, remains a top priority for the Lagos State Government,” he said.
Earlier, the Lagos State NYSC Coordinator, Christiana Salmwang, congratulated the corps members on behalf of the Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu.

“The corps members have been exposed to a well-structured programme designed to mould them into responsible, resilient and service-ready citizens,” Ms Salmwang said.
She explained that the orientation course focused on leadership development, skills acquisition and character building, aimed at instilling the core values of unity, teamwork and national integration.

Mrs. Salmwang expressed confidence that the corps members would uphold the ideals of the NYSC scheme as they proceed to their Places of Primary Assignment.
“I am confident that you will discharge your duties with excellence, loyalty and a deep sense of responsibility to the nation,” she said.
