Salmwang Urges Corps Members to Uphold Discipline, Security

The Lagos State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs Christiana Salmwang, has charged 2026 Batch A, Stream I Corps Members to uphold discipline, security and responsible service throughout their service year.
She gave the charge during a debriefing session at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Lagos, as the Corps Members prepared to leave camp for their various Places of Primary Assignment (PPAs).

Mrs Salmwang reminded the Corps Members that their movement from the orientation camp to their host communities marked the commencement of a serious national assignment that demands commitment, patriotism and good character.
She disclosed that all Corps Members had been duly posted to their PPAs and urged them to report promptly to enable smooth documentation at their respective Local Government Secretariats.
On relocation, the Coordinator clarified that Corps Members seeking redeployment must first report to their PPAs, stressing that relocation requests would no longer be considered three months after the orientation exercise.
Addressing security concerns, Mrs Salmwang cautioned Corps Members against night travels and advised them to stay in recognised corps members’ lodges while searching for permanent accommodation. She emphasised that personal safety must always be prioritised.
She also reminded the Corps Members of their welfare benefits, noting that they are enrolled under the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) scheme and are entitled to medical care when needed. She warned against self-medication and encouraged them to utilise approved health facilities.
The NYSC boss further advised the Corps Members to exercise caution in their use of social media, warning that inappropriate online activities could have lasting consequences on their future careers.
Speaking on Community Development Service (CDS), Mrs Salmwang described it as a vital aspect of the NYSC programme, urging Corps Members to participate actively and initiate projects capable of positively impacting their host communities. She also directed them to adhere to the established chain of communication within the Scheme, beginning with their Local Government Inspectors.
On conduct and appearance, she urged strict compliance with the approved NYSC dress code and maintenance of modest behaviour at all times. She also encouraged the Corps Members to sustain their participation in the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme after camp, describing it as a pathway to self-reliance and economic empowerment.
In her closing remarks, Mrs Salmwang reminded the Corps Members that they are ambassadors of the NYSC and their families, wishing them a successful, impactful and safe service year.
