Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has released what he claims is email evidence confirming his involvement in the selection of Peter Obi as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in the 2019 presidential election.

In a post shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday, Omokri—who served under ex-President Goodluck Jonathan—published an email purportedly sent to him by Peter Obi on October 8, 2018, just four days before Obi was officially announced as Atiku’s vice-presidential pick on October 12, 2018.

“Please find attached an email sent to me by Peter Obi at 6:13 PM on Monday, October 8, 2018. Four days after this email was sent, Peter Obi was announced as Waziri Atiku Abubakar’s running mate,” he wrote.

Omokri said the email was released to debunk claims by members of the Obidient Movement, who accused him of fabricating his role in Obi’s 2019 nomination.

“My ONLY motive in publishing this evidence is to establish that I did not lie. I would not have considered publishing this email if a Peter Obi surrogate had not called me a liar on a popular podcast,” he explained.

He went further to challenge Peter Obi to publicly disown the email’s authenticity, warning that he has more “damning evidence” in reserve.

“If this email is fake or AI-generated, then I challenge Mr. Obi to deny it, and I will publish even more damning evidence, although it is not my desire to do so,” Omokri added.
