Regional Development Ministry and Military Forge New Alliance to Tackle Insecurity and Boost Development

The Ministry of Regional Development is set to deepen its collaboration with the Nigerian military to address insecurity and promote development in conflict-affected regions.
This was disclosed on Monday, July 8, 2025, when the Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari Ahmadu, received the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, during a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja.
The visit, according to both parties, was aimed at strengthening the relationship between the Defence Headquarters and the Ministry in a bid to support national peacebuilding and security efforts.
Speaking during the meeting, the Minister of State reaffirmed the Ministry’s willingness to partner with the military in addressing insecurity and restoring peace to troubled regions across the country. He emphasized the importance of tapping into the military’s expertise and resources to support regional development projects, especially in areas ravaged by insurgency and communal conflict.
“The military remains a key partner in rebuilding our regions. We must act swiftly in areas suffering from insecurity to bring life and progress back to our communities,” he said.
Ahmadu also commended General Musa for his efforts in curbing violence in the Northwest and Lake Chad regions, the training of special forces, and the support provided to children of displaced persons by integrating them into Command Secondary Schools.
“Together we shall succeed in keeping this nation one and peaceful to live in, with the backing of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the Minister added.
In his remarks, General Musa said his visit was to explore avenues for collaboration with the Ministry, particularly in areas such as infrastructure, security, and humanitarian support.
The meeting signals a renewed commitment to a whole-of-government approach in tackling the country’s security and development challenges.
