Queen May Issues Legal Warning Over Cyberstalking and Defamation Claims

May Yul-Edochie, popularly known as Queen May and the estranged wife of Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, has served a cease-and-desist notice on her former lawyer, Emeka Ugwuonye, and a US-based woman, Yinka Theisen, over allegations of cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and defamation.
Through her legal team, Graylaw Partners, Queen May claimed that both individuals made multiple damaging posts about her on social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and Facebook, which she says have harmed her reputation and business interests.
The letters, sent separately to Ugwuonye and Theisen, demand that they immediately stop making such posts, remove existing content, issue a public apology, and publish retractions across all platforms where the statements were made.
Queen May is seeking N1 billion in damages from Ugwuonye and N500 million from Theisen.
Her lawyers accused Ugwuonye of mishandling confidential information during their professional relationship, claiming his actions worsened the situation and exposed her to further harm. The notice to Theisen similarly alleged that she amplified harmful narratives online and encouraged others to spread them.
The legal team warned that failure to comply within 48 hours would leave Queen May with no choice but to pursue civil and criminal action to protect her rights and reputation.
The letter to Ugwuonye emphasized that, as her former lawyer, he had access to privileged information, which he allegedly misused in ways that undermined her interests—a breach of trust and professional ethics that intensified the damage. The notice to Theisen highlighted her role in spreading and amplifying damaging online content, further harming Queen May’s reputation.
Both letters set strict deadlines, making clear that non-compliance would result in immediate legal proceedings.
