Probe begins on ‘sexual harassment’ against male teacher in FGGC

A thorough probe into allegations of sexual harassment against a teacher, Mr Jatto, at the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC), Benin City, has commenced.
Folasade Boriowo, Director, Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education, said in a statement that the Principal of the school has been summoned to the Ministry’s Headquarters in Abuja for further clarification.
Mrs Boriowo, however, explained that preliminary investigation by a committee set up by the school authority revealed that the case in question was not one of sexual harassment but high-handedness in classroom management, which was misrepresented.
According to her, Mr Jatto was on prep supervision duty at the time of the incident and had been responding to a rowdy classroom situation.
The Ministry remained committed to transparency and upholding the integrity of educational institutions across the country, she said.
The statement also urged the public to exercise patience as the final findings of the investigation would be made known in due course.
