Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu Denies Allegations Over Timing Of Mansion Construction

Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has dismissed claims that he built a multimillion-naira mansion within two years of joining President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.
In a statement issued through his media aide, Femi Awogboro, Adelabu clarified that construction of the property began in November 2021 and was completed in August 2023—before his appointment as Minister in September 2023.
He explained that the residence sits on a site where he had lived since 2010, when he first built and publicly unveiled the original structure during his career as a senior banking and finance executive. The new building, he said, is a redevelopment of that home, undertaken 12 years later to suit his current political responsibilities.
Adelabu urged the media outlet behind the report to retract what he described as a “false and misleading publication,” warning that legal action may follow if it fails to comply.
“I began and completed this project before my appointment. I only moved in this year because of work schedules and timing constraints,” he said. “The attention arose after a viral video of my hosting of Fuji musician Alhaji Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, following the Ibadan North Federal Constituency by-election campaign flag-off.”
He also pointed to his established investments in hospitality and real estate within and outside Oyo State, noting that they have created jobs over the years. “Sahara Reporters’ baseless publication is a failed attempt to discredit me and, by extension, undermine the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he added.
