Portugal Crowned UEFA Nations League Champions After Dramatic Penalty Shootout Win Over Spain

Portugal has won the 2024–25 UEFA Nations League title, defeating Spain 5–3 on penalties after a thrilling 2–2 draw in regulation and extra time at the Allianz Arena in Munich.
Spain took the lead twice through goals from Martín Zubimendi and Mikel Oyarzabal, but Portugal fought back with goals from Nuno Mendes and a crucial equalizer by Cristiano Ronaldo—his 138th international goal—forcing the match into extra time.
With no goals in extra time, the match was decided by a penalty shootout. Portugal converted all five of their penalties, while Spain faltered when Álvaro Morata missed his spot-kick, handing Portugal their second Nations League title, following their 2019 triumph.
The final was widely seen as a generational showdown, with 40-year-old Ronaldo leading Portugal against Spain’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal. Ultimately, experience triumphed over youth as Portugal lifted the trophy once again.
