Police withdraw House, Speaker Meranda’s security

All police escort guarding the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mrs. Mojisola Meranda, and those safeguarding the Assembly have been withdrawn with immediate effect.
Radio Nigeria gathered that the ousted speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, forcefully broke into the office of the Meranda.
Obasa, supported by some armed men, allegedly broke into the office at about noon on Thursday, following the withdrawal of the security aides of the substantive Speaker, Meranda.
On 13 January 2025, Mudashiru Obasa was impeached by the majority of members of the Lagos State House of Assembly over allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office.
Soon after, his deputy, Mojisola Merinda, was brought back to lead the assembly as the first Lagos female speaker, with Mojeed Fatai appointed as the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly.
Obasa, feeling that his removal was unfair and that proper procedures were not followed, took legal action against the assembly.
The case is now in court as both sides seek a fair resolution.
