Police Summon El-Rufai Over Alleged Conspiracy and Public Disturbance

The Kaduna State Police Command has invited former governor, Nasir El-Rufai, for questioning over allegations of criminal conspiracy, incitement of public disturbance, mischief, and causing grievous hurt.
The summons, signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Criminal Investigation, Zubairu Abdullahi, also listed several leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna State. Among those invited are the party’s North West Chairman, Ja’afaru Sani, along with Bashir Saidu, Ubaidullah Mohammed (popularly known as Mikiya 30), Nasiru Maikano, Aminu Abita, and Ahmed Rufa’i Hussaini, also known as Mikiya.
“This Department is currently investigating the above-mentioned case involving the following members of your party. You are requested to come along with them to SCID to clarify allegations reported against them by the complainants on 8th September, 2025,” the invitation letter partly read.
However, ADC members denied receiving any formal invitation, insisting they only became aware of the summons through social media reports.
The development comes days after suspected thugs disrupted the inauguration of a transition committee formed by a coalition of opposition parties under the ADC in Kaduna. Witnesses said the attackers, armed with cutlasses, clubs, and stones, descended on participants and vandalised property at the event.
The coalition behind the committee includes members of an All Progressives Congress (APC) faction opposed to the current state leadership, alongside representatives of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Labour Party (LP), and the ADC.
Despite the violence, the inauguration proceeded under tense conditions. The Kaduna Police Command, however, laid responsibility at the doorstep of the former governor.
Police spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, said El-Rufai failed to notify security agencies about the gathering, despite repeated warnings.
