Police Bust Child Trafficking Syndicate, Rescue Five Children

The Nigeria Police Force, Zone 2 Command, has dismantled a child trafficking syndicate, rescuing five children in the process in Lagos State.
Deputy Commissioner of Police in the state, Ajao Adewale, revealed the syndicate’s network had previously evaded capture. However, the police successfully intercepted their latest operation, ensuring the safety of the victims.
The rescued children include one-year-old Marvelous Obi, three-year-old Promise Ifekwuna, Somtochukwu Onyemaechi who happens to be a year, and Chibuzornma Onyemaechi and Praise Chukwu Ibezim of three and six years of age respectively. They were handed over to the Lagos Ministry of Youth and Social Development.
Commissioner Mobolaji Ogunlende, condemned child trafficking and stated categorically that buying and selling children in Lagos State is illegal. He warned traffickers to desist, as the government remains vigilant against such crimes.
DCP Ajao credited the success to cooperation between law enforcement, local communities, and relevant agencies. He stressed that intelligence-led policing played a crucial role in dismantling the criminal network.
The syndicate was led by Sunday Okputu, who supplied the children. Ibezim Chioma acted as a middlewoman, while Chinasa Echelibe cared for the children before they were sold. All suspects are in custody.
Permanent Secretary Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu urged families seeking children to explore legal adoption. She said that every child deserves proper care and protection under the law.
