Police Begin Prosecution of 22 Suspects in Connection to the Mangun Killings

The twenty two suspects arrested in connection to the killing of travelers who were on their way for a wedding in Quanpan local government area of Plateau State have been arraigned before a state high court in Jos.
Addressing journalists at the command’s headquarters in Jos on Thursday, the state Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, said the Police command had swiftly responded to the incident, deploying men and operational assets to the scene to ensure the arrest of the perpetrators.
He added that the command had also concluded investigations and would be charging the suspects in court.
The CP said, “On June 20, 2025, we received a report at the Mangu Division, reporting that a bus carrying passengers from Kaduna State was being attacked by a mob at the Mangun market square, Mangu LGA.
“Upon receipt of this report, I directed the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Mangu Division to mobilise and lead a team of policemen to the scene of the crime. On reaching the scene, our men in collaboration with other security agencies successfully dispersed the mob and rescued 21 victims who were rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.
“While conducting a preliminary investigation, we discovered that the victims were travellers from Zaria, Kaduna State who were on their way to attend a wedding ceremony at Kwa village of Qua’anpan Local Government Area in a 32-seater bus with the inscription, “Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria”, when they lost their way and were unfortunately attacked by a mob at the Mangun village, Mangu LGA of Plateau State.”
The suspects include 2 minors, the case could not commence properly as the Prosecution sought for an amendment of the charge to allow them separate the minors as requested by the lawyer for the defendants Garba Pwol
The Presiding Judge,Justice Boniface Ngyon granted the plea and adjourned the matter to the 11th of July 2025.
The incident occurred on June 20, 2025, when a bus carrying passengers from Kaduna State was attacked by a mob, resulting in the deaths and injuries of several people.
The CP assured the people that the command was committed to ensuring that all those involved in the perpetration of the act were brought to justice.
