Police Arrest OPC Member for Allegedly Killing of Teenager in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspected member of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) in connection with the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old boy in the Itapo area of Epe Local Government.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, made the announcement on Thursday, noting that the suspect—whose name has not been disclosed—has been taken into custody and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further interrogation.
The fatal shooting occurred around 3 a.m. on Monday, when the OPC member allegedly opened fire on the teenager, killing him on the spot before fleeing the scene.
The incident triggered widespread outrage and unrest in the Epe community. Angry residents, particularly youths, staged a protest by parading the victim’s lifeless body from Itapo through major parts of the town, demanding swift justice for the killing.
The protest escalated tensions in the area, prompting a rapid response from security operatives. In an attempt to disperse the growing crowd, police reportedly deployed teargas and fired warning shots. The body of the deceased was eventually retrieved and transported to a hospital for further examination.
Following a manhunt launched earlier in the week, the police have now confirmed that the suspect is in custody as investigations continue.
