Police Arrest Officer Who Killed 14-Year-Old Student During Traffic Stop In Ibadan

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested the officer responsible for the fatal shooting of 14-year-old Kehinde Alade, a secondary school student, during a traffic enforcement operation in Ibadan.
The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday during a joint patrol involving the police and officials of the Oyo State Traffic Management Authority (OYTMA). According to authorities, Kehinde’s father, Odunayo Alade, allegedly drove against traffic and attempted to escape arrest by ramming into enforcement vehicles. In response, a police officer opened fire on the car’s tyres, but the bullet tragically struck Kehinde, who was seated in the back seat.
The officer who fired the shot, along with other members of the enforcement team, has been taken into custody. The Commissioner of Police, Adebola Hamzat, has ordered a thorough investigation led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police at the State Criminal Investigation Department.
The police have pledged transparency and assured the public that the outcome of the investigation will be made public.
Reacting to the incident, the Oyo State Government expressed deep sorrow, calling the killing “shocking and painful,” and vowed to support efforts to ensure justice.
Kehinde’s death has sparked widespread outrage and protests in parts of Ibadan. The police extended their condolences to the grieving family and reaffirmed their commitment to holding those involved accountable.
