Peter Obi Refutes ₦225 Billion Debt Claim, Denies Meeting Tinubu in Rome

Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, has clarified why he was absent from the burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari, which took place on Tuesday in Daura, Katsina State.

Obi’s absence at the high-profile event drew criticism from some quarters, given the attendance of several top political figures. However, the former Anambra State governor has explained that flight issues prevented him from arriving on time.

Speaking to Arise TV on Wednesday, Obi said:

“It was difficult to come yesterday (Tuesday) because there was no flight. Even if there was a flight, you couldn’t land in Katsina Airport. It was all closed because there were a lot of dignitaries.”

He emphasized that mourning continues beyond the burial day, adding:

“Mourning continues until tomorrow. So, whoever comes today and tomorrow is still part of the mourning.”

Obi eventually arrived in Daura on Wednesday to personally pay his respects and condole with the late president’s family.
