Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, has donated ₦20 million to the University of Calabar’s Faculty of Dentistry to help 400 students at risk of expulsion due to accreditation issues.
The donation, announced on July 24, 2025, is aimed at addressing the faculty’s lack of critical training equipment—one of the major reasons the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) threatened to revoke its accreditation after the institution reportedly over-admitted students.

Obi shared the news on X, reaffirming his dedication to education and student welfare: “No student should be denied education due to institutional failures.”
The Faculty of Dentistry thanked Obi for the timely intervention, describing it as a vital step toward restoring accreditation and securing the academic future of its students.

UNICAL has begun procurement of the required equipment, with progress updates expected by August 15, 2025.
