Peter Obi Accuses Tinubu Of Misleading Nigerians With False Economic Data

Published

on

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has taken a swipe at President Bola Tinubu, accusing him of failing to fulfill campaign promises and deceiving Nigerians with manipulated economic statistics.

Obi recalled Tinubu’s 2022 campaign speech in Delta State, where he dismissed the importance of statistics and promised instead to focus on feeding the people. Now, according to Obi, two years into his presidency, Nigeria remains one of the hungriest nations in the world, with millions unsure of their next meal.

He alleged that Tinubu is now “overfeeding Nigerians with wrong statistics,” pointing to what he described as fabricated unemployment and inflation figures, along with questionable GDP rebasing — all aimed at painting a false picture of economic progress.

“In November 2022, while campaigning in Delta State, the then APC Presidential Candidate, Bola Tinubu, now the President, berated the other Presidential Candidate (Peter Obi), he was ashamed to call his name, saying ‘Na statistics we go chop? All I want is to put food on the table of Nigerians.’

Now two years into his 4-year tenure, Nigeria is classified as one of the hungriest nations in the world, with millions of Nigerians not knowing where their next meal will come from.

President Tinubu is now overfeeding Nigerians with wrong statistics from wrong unemployment figures, wrong inflation figures, and now GDP rebasing — all to put a positive spin on our deteriorating economic and household conditions.
