Peter Obi Unveils Strategy to End Nigeria’s Power Crisis

Founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Professor Jerry Gana, has revealed that the party has reached out to former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, urging him to return to the PDP.

Gana made the disclosure on Friday during an appearance on AIT’s Focus Nigeria, where he confirmed ongoing reconciliation efforts within the party and identified Obi as one of the key figures being courted.

When asked directly whether the PDP had approached Obi, Gana responded, “Why not?” adding that the former governor was not the only person the party was targeting for a possible return.

“We are also moving to other persons. But I don’t want to announce until we really get there,” he said.

According to Gana, the PDP is now more united and better positioned to convince former members to rejoin.

“I have a very solid platform. I can now go back to these people and say the platform you were complaining about is now set, proper, and ready to move. I know many of them would respond,” he stated.

Peter Obi resigned from the PDP on May 25, 2022, just days before the party’s presidential primaries. He later emerged as the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election.

At the time, Obi attributed his resignation to “recent developments within our party that make it practically impossible to continue participating and making constructive contributions.”

The renewed push to bring Obi back comes as the PDP intensifies its internal restructuring efforts and works to strengthen its base ahead of the 2027 general elections.
