PDP Appoints Caretaker Committees for Delta, Enugu, Imo, Rivers, Osun

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved the appointment of caretaker committees to oversee the affairs of the party in Delta, Enugu, Imo, Rivers and Osun states.

The decision, taken on behalf of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), was made in line with Section 29(2)(b) of the PDP Constitution (2025 as amended), according to a statement issued on Wednesday by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Theophilus Dakas Shan.

Mr Shan said the caretaker committees are expected to manage the party’s activities in their respective states pending the election of new state executive committees.

Delta State

The Delta State Caretaker Committee is chaired by Prof. Sylvester Monye, with Dr Michael Tidi, Esq. serving as secretary. Other members include Ujor Ucheonny, Victor Ofobrukueta, Johnbull Aghogho Kenairu, Jackson Agbor, Onajega Mike, Chief Ekiyor Charles, Mrs Vero Egbuna, Chukwunonso Alex Ndah and Walter Uguoye.

Enugu State

In Enugu State, Barrister Steve Oruruo was named chairman, while Martin Ugwuamadieze will serve as secretary. Members of the committee include Ugwu Uchenna Godswill, Lilian Ugwuoke, Anikezie Michael, Cosmas Chinwe Ugwu, Barrister Basil Aguigwo, Chief Cosmas Onyia and Barrister Peter Ajah.

Imo State

The Imo State Caretaker Committee will be led by Chief John Jude Okere as chairman, with Magnus Amadi as secretary. Other members are Kenneth Ejiofor, Chinonso Odoemelam, Celestine Uwah, Maria Osuigwe, Love Orum, Promise Oneogwe and Hygienus Asoluka.

Rivers State

In Rivers State, Ogbam Ojimah was appointed chairman, while Dr Field Baribeful Nkor will serve as secretary. The committee also includes Richard Enyia Victor, Grace Boma Harry, Princess Isioma Stella Elenwa, Eldred Owupele-Orubo, Austin Emeka Wali, Ada Udong and Edward Nubari David.

Osun State

The Osun State committee is chaired by Tunde Tijani, with Bamidele Seyi-Abiola as secretary. Other members are Lateef Mumini Obide, Sarafa Gbadamosi, Adewoyin Babatunde, Ajileye Wasiu Aderemi and Oluresi Michael Adebanji.

According to the statement, the caretaker committees are empowered under Section 21(2)(a–b) of the PDP Constitution to administer the party’s affairs in their states.

“The tenure of the caretaker committees shall not exceed 90 days or until new state executive committees are elected,” the party said.

Mr Shan added that members of the committees are expected to carry out their duties strictly in accordance with the PDP Constitution, the Electoral Act 2022, and the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

The PDP has in recent years relied on caretaker committees in several states to stabilise party structures and address internal disputes ahead of congresses and elections.
