The Osun State Police Command has arrested a 62-year-old chieftaincy title holder, Chief Ajibade, for allegedly forcing a 25-year-old man, identified as Ebenezer, to drink a poisonous substance after accusing him of stealing two pieces of corn from his farm.

Police spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the arrest on Thursday, stating that investigations had commenced and urging residents to remain calm.

The incident, which occurred over a week ago in the Ireti Ayo area of Ilesa, was captured in a video showing the victim sitting on the ground with the corn beside him while Ajibade, armed with a cutlass, allegedly forced him to drink from a cup.

Residents said Ebenezer was later rushed to Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesa, where doctors neutralised the poison, saving his life. However, news that he had died was mistakenly relayed to his father, who reportedly collapsed and died from shock.
