Osita Chidoka Slams Edo Governor Over Threats To Peter Obi

Former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, has condemned Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo for issuing threats to former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Chidoka described the governor’s warning as a dangerous erosion of Nigeria’s democratic values.
Governor Okpebholo had, in July 2025, cautioned Obi against entering Edo State without prior notification and approval — a stance Chidoka labelled as part of a troubling trend of “territorial authoritarianism” by state governors.
He cited a similar incident in April, when Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia warned Obi not to visit IDP camps in the state without clearance, also citing security concerns.
“These threats are unconstitutional, unlawful, and signal a creeping descent into regional lawlessness,” Chidoka stated.
