OOPL Demands N2.5 Billion Compensation From EFCC Over Raid

Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has demanded N2.5 billion in compensation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the raid of its facility on August 10.
The library says the claim is to atone for the damage caused to the reputation, business, and financial standing of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo.
EFCC operatives from the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 reportedly stormed the library at around 2 a.m. on Sunday during the “Wet & Rave Splash Extravaganza” party at OOPL Rounda fun spot. The raid saw 93 youths arrested, 18 vehicles seized, and mobile devices confiscated.
According to the library management, the operatives, led by one “Olapade” in a gang of over 50 armed men, allegedly fired shots and threatened attendees, causing panic, chaos, and injuries as people tried to flee.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Managing Director Vitalis Ortese demanded compensation for those arrested and whose vehicles were seized, including N1 billion for bodily injuries sustained. He said the EFCC and Nigeria Police Force (NPF) are “jointly and severally liable” for the “deliberate, embarrassing and malicious” actions of August 9 and 10, 2025.
Ortese added that the invasion was “aggravated, unconstitutional, oppressive, capricious, and arbitrary,” apparently motivated by malice against OOPL and its Chief Promoter, Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR. He said the attack aimed not only to brutalize attendees but also to damage the library’s commercial and financial interests, as well as Obasanjo’s public image.
The library is calling for:
A comprehensive investigation by relevant security agencies, with reports published publicly.
Public apologies from the EFCC Chairman and Inspector General of Police, widely disseminated across TV, print, and social media.
Immediate restitution for those arrested and injured, totaling at least N1 billion.
Payment of N2.5 billion to acknowledge the damage caused to OOPL and Obasanjo’s reputation.
Ortese warned that if the demands are not met within seven days, the library will pursue legal action in court, with claims potentially exceeding the current demands.
OOPL Legal Adviser, Olumide Ayeni, SAN, confirmed that evidence—including a beret and a bullet shell—supports claims of indiscriminate shooting during the raid.
