The Ondo State Government has confirmed 12 cases of monkeypox, also known as M-pox, across eight local government areas.
Victor Adefesoye, Director of Disease Control at the Ondo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, announced this during a stakeholders’ meeting on M-pox vaccination in Akure.
He identified the affected areas as Akoko South-West, Akoko North-West, Akoko North-East, Owo, Akure South, Akure North, Ondo East, and Odigbo.
According to him, vaccination for residents aged 18 and above will run from August 11 to 21, targeting infected individuals, their close contacts, and health workers who have treated them. He assured that the vaccine is safe, free, and will be administered in two doses at different intervals.
Adefesoye urged stakeholders to encourage residents to get vaccinated and called on the public to maintain personal and environmental hygiene to curb the spread of the disease.
