Ogun Govt Tells Gbenga Daniel To Comply With Demolition Notices, Says He’s Not Above The Law

The Ogun State Government has urged former Governor and Ogun East Senator Gbenga Daniel to stop protesting and comply with lawful directives.

Kayode Akinmade, spokesperson for Governor Dapo Abiodun, made the statement in response to reports about the planned demolition of Daniel’s Asoludero residence and Conference Hotel in Sagamu Local Government Area.

Daniel had raised concerns over the planned demolition under the Ogun State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law No. 61 of 2022, arguing that his properties were legally built before the law was enacted. He claimed the government’s move was politically motivated and disregarded due process and the rule of law.

However, Akinmade emphasized that Daniel is not above the law. He explained that Daniel, like other property owners in the area, was served with notices but chose to ignore the opportunity to present his planning permit and land title for verification, instead resorting to what Akinmade called “cheap blackmail.”

“The Ogun State Government is not engaging in any unjust action against Otunba Gbenga Daniel,” Akinmade said.

He added that Governor Abiodun’s development agenda includes building new communities such as affordable housing estates and urban renewal projects like the ‘yellow roof revolution.’ Starting with Ibara GRA in Abeokuta, this urban renewal is now extending to Sagamu and Ijebu-Ode GRAs.

“This effort involves auditing existing developments—including houses, schools, hospitals, and commercial buildings—to verify permit status, as required by law. This audit is currently ongoing in Ijebu-Ode and Sagamu GRAs,” Akinmade explained.

He noted that Daniel’s property in Sagamu GRA is among those served notices under the Town Planning Law, alongside many other structures.
