Ogun Government Warns Contractors Against Water Pipe Vandalism

The Ogun State Government has warned contractors against damaging water pipelines during construction. The state government owed to arrest and prosecute violators to protect the state’s water infrastructure and ensure uninterrupted supply.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals and Water Resources, Damilola Otubanjo, condemned the frequent destruction of underground pipelines. She blamed contractors for neglecting repairs after damaging water infrastructure.
Otubanjo stated the challenges posed by aging facilities and past neglect. She said ongoing rehabilitation efforts are being undermined by careless excavation, leading to increased costs and service disruptions.
She stressed that broken pipelines cause massive water loss, financial strain, and health risks. Contaminated water from damaged pipes poses serious dangers to residents, requiring urgent preventive action.
The Ogun State Water Corporation reassured resisents of its commitment to improving water supply. It called for collaboration with construction firms to prevent future damage through pre-construction assessments.
The government plans to strengthen monitoring, enforce strict regulations, and raise awareness about water infrastructure protection. It urged all stakeholders to prioritize responsible construction practices.
