In a powerful act of integrity, Officer Ugochukwu has turned down a bribe of N10 million, an iPhone 13 Pro Max, and a Tecno Camon 19 allegedly offered by a suspect identified as a ritualist from Ezeagu, Enugu, in an attempt to evade arrest.

Recounting the incident, Officer Ugochukwu said, “On Wednesday afternoon, while on duty at my checkpoint in Gbaji along Seme Road, I saw a bike carrying a young man wearing a face cap. His face looked familiar because I had received information about a wanted suspect matching his description, along with his photo, which had been circulating on social media.”

“I tried to stop the bike, but they refused to halt. I quickly boarded another bike and chased after them. I eventually caught up with them at the next immigration checkpoint ahead. I ordered the bike man to turn back, but this time I got on the bike with the suspect.”

“On our way back to my checkpoint, he suddenly stopped the bike and asked what he had done. I showed him the photo and details of his alleged crime. He denied everything, claiming the person in the photo was his brother and that he was simply returning from the bank in Agbara. He also insisted he was not a native doctor.”

According to the officer, the suspect later attempted to bribe him. “After a while, he offered me N10 million, which he called blood money, to let him go. I refused. He claimed the accusations were false and that people were trying to set him up because it was his turn to become the Igwe of their community. He then added his iPhone 13 Pro Max and a Tecno Camon 19 to the offer.”

“He said the iPhone was worth a million naira and begged me to let him go, but I stood my ground. I forced him back to my checkpoint at Gbaji, snapped photos of him matching the viral images, and sent a signal to the Seme Border Patrol Command. Once his identity was confirmed, I handcuffed him and transported him to our command headquarters immediately. Even my colleagues were in disbelief, as none of them recognized him — only I did.”
