…… Presents 2 Million Naira Cheques To Ex-corps members

The Director, Corps Welfare and Health Services, NYSC Headquarters, Mr. Ayodele Omotade urge corps members of the 2023 Batch “C” Stream I Orientation course deployed to Lagos to pursue the right attitude during service, noting that there is no height that cannot be attained with the right attitude.
Mr. Omotade gave the charge while on official visit to the Lagos state NYSC Orientation camp in Iyana-Ipaja on Wednesday
He enjoined the corps members to change their bad attitude, stating that “what will make you successful in life is good attitude.” Advising them to pick up diligence as nothing can replace it if they want to achieve success, he said “nothing goes without deliberate efforts on your part. As much you want to achieve success quickly, you must have a direction, and plan and you must note that life is by process, no success comes suddenly, life is a process and gradual.”
While speaking on the need for the corps members to create identity for themselves, he said the wealth of their parents or relatives do not belong to them and that they must not hide under the cloak of their parents, but to fashion out identity for themselves by creating opportunities, working with their hands and staying diligent.

On community impact, he charged the corps members to accept their postings in good fate, and impact their community in the process. He said “go to communities that have needs to add value, do not be part of the army of complainants and wherever you are posted, continue to represent the scheme.”
In another development, the Director, Mr. Ayodele Omotade, has presented cheques of two million naira; one million naira each to two ex-corps members who were victims of Road Traffic Accident during their service year.

Speaking on behalf of Director-General, he explained to the gathering that presentation of the cheque came up under the “NYSC Hope Alive” Programme of the NYSC, ensures corps members who are victims of mishap and permanently marred, are given a new lease of life through some insurance packages, enough to renew their hopes after being initially dashed.

The “Hope Alive” project was established in 2014 by the then Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Major General J. B. Olawumi in a bid to ensure ex-corps members of the scheme are not abandoned to their predicament.

Meanwhile, the Director of Corps Welfare and Health Services Department of the scheme has while making the presentation, warned corps members to avoid unnecessary adventures and avoid travelling if an approval is not given, stating that corps members who are harmed in the course of any unauthorized journey will not be abandoned by the scheme especially on their medical bills but will not be entitled to any insurance package if they are marred. It is important to state that before the enrollment of the NYSC scheme into the National Health Insurance Authority, corps members’ medical bills are cleared by the scheme, alongside other out of pocket expenses during their medical treatment.
