NYSC Lagos Officials Trained on Online Asset Declaration to Promote Integrity, Compliance

In a move to strengthen transparency and curb unethical practices in public service, officials of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) have trained staff of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Lagos State Secretariat on the procedures and importance of online asset declaration.
The sensitisation session, held at the NYSC Secretariat, was facilitated by Dr Ayodeji Fatehinse and Mr Emmanuel Sonuga of the Bureau. The engagement focused on instilling core values of accountability, integrity, and ethical conduct among public officers.
The officials explained key elements of the Code of Conduct, including the prohibition of foreign accounts, restrictions on receiving gifts or benefits, avoidance of conflicts of interest, abuse of office, and the importance of declaring assets before and after public service.
According to them, the code is not just a set of rules, but a tool for self-evaluation, helping public officers meet public expectations, maintain moral standards, and align with legal and ethical responsibilities.

They advised public officials to remain conscious of public perception, live within their means, understand relevant statutory provisions, and develop a strong culture of compliance and accountability. They also encouraged officers to request sufficient resources to execute their duties effectively and ethically.

In her closing remarks, the NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, Mrs Christiana Salmwang, commended the CCB for the enlightenment programme, describing it as timely and essential. She appealed for a simplified process of online asset declaration to make compliance easier, especially for younger officers, and called for continuous education to foster a culture of integrity within the public service.
