NYSC Lagos Medical Outreach Extended To Ikorodu Market Community

The Medical & Health CDS group, Ikorodu Local Government area held a medical outreach for Market men and women, providing free health screenings, consultations, and medications. This initiative aimed at promoting health awareness, detecting potential health issues, and improving the overall wellbeing of the Market community.

Market areas in Ikorodu, like Laketu Market, are often densely populated and have limited access to regular healthcare services. Many market vendors work long hours and may not prioritize their health due to financial and time constraints. The Medical & Health CDS group recognized its social responsibility to address the health needs of vulnerable communities and identified a gap in healthcare access for market vendors.
The outreach program was conducted at Laketu Market, opposite BRT Bus Terminal, Ikorodu, Lagos State. A team of healthcare professionals set up a temporary health station, equipped with necessary medical equipment and supplies. Market people were invited to participate in blood sugar testing, blood pressure measurement, weight checks, consultations with healthcare professionals, and distribution of medications for identified health issues.
A total of 95 participants benefited from the program. Key findings included 2 participants with hypertensive crisis, 26 with high blood pressure, 32 prehypertensive, 35 with normal blood pressure, 8 with diabetes, 18 with pre-diabetes, 57 with normal sugar levels, and 8 with low sugar levels. Medications and health advice were provided to participants with identified health issues.
The initiative helped identify potential health issues, promoted health awareness, and encouraged healthy practices among the market community.
The Medical & Health CDS group appreciates the support of CDS Department, NYSC Lagos state secretariat for providing drugs, as well as the cooperation of market leaders, participants, and the healthcare team.
The team was led by the local government inspector, Mrs Kehinde Odukoya.
