NYSC Lagos Coordinator Encourages Corps Members to Plan Careers Beyond Service Year

The Lagos State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Christiana Salmwang, has encouraged corps members from the 2024 Batch B Stream II to start preparing for life beyond their service year by leveraging the skills and opportunities available during their NYSC experience.
Speaking at the launch of the Job Awareness and Creation (JAC) initiative, Mrs. Salmwang congratulated the new corps members and highlighted the importance of skill acquisition and professional development. She recommended the NYSC Job Portal as a key tool for job hunting, underscoring the value of a well-written CV in today’s competitive job market.
The event also featured talks from several stakeholders, including Mrs. Stella Nweke, Assistant Director of the NYSC’s Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program; Mrs. Thomas Iraboh from the National Directorate of Employment; and Mrs. Iyanuoluwa of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment. They provided guidance on vocational training, entrepreneurship, and workplace safety.

Engineer George Richard, the oldest SAED trainer, shared practical advice on job retention, interview preparation, and the benefits of acquiring unique skills, including foreign language proficiency.
In her closing address, Mrs. Salmwang urged corps members to stay away from drug abuse, invest in personal growth, and be agents of positive change in their communities.
In a related development, the Institute of Professional Entrepreneurship Development concluded a three-month intensive training program, graduating 20 corps members. The graduates received certifications in key areas such as Project Management, Facility Management, Human Resource Management, and Entrepreneurship Development—equipping them with practical skills for their post-service careers.
