The Benue State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Veronica Garba, has confirmed that corps members posted to crisis-prone areas have been safely evacuated and relocated to family houses in Makurdi.

Garba disclosed this on Thursday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Wannune, Tarka Local Government Area.

She explained that upon receiving reports of unrest in the Yelewata and Daudu areas, the NYSC management immediately contacted the state police command, which deployed officers to carry out the evacuation.

“Our corps members were promptly moved to their family houses, including the offices of the Nigeria Corpers Christian Fellowship, the National Association of Catholic Corps Members, and the Muslim Corpers Association of Nigeria,” she said.

“We do not joke with the safety of our corps members because we take them as our children. So as soon as we heard about the crisis, we contacted the Commissioner of Police, who assigned officers to evacuate them,” she added.

Garba noted that a headcount was conducted after the relocation, confirming that no corps member was missing. She said the NYSC is monitoring the situation and will determine when it is safe for the corps members to return.
