NYSC Addresses Rumours on Withheld Certificate for Member Ushie Rita Uguamaye

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has dismissed as false the social media claims suggesting that Corps Member Ushie Rita Uguamaye, with State Code Number LA/24B/8325, was denied her Certificate of National Service (CNS) for making critical remarks about the government.
According to NYSC Management, “this assertion is entirely unfounded and false in its entirety.” The scheme clarified that Ms. Uguamaye is among 131 corps members whose certificates were withheld for disciplinary reasons. Her service year was extended by two months after she failed to attend the April 2025 biometrics clearance—an action consistent with the NYSC Bye-Laws.
The statement emphasised that such extensions are a standard disciplinary measure, not peculiar to her case, and that “the principle of equal treatment was only applied in this case.”
The NYSC urged the public to treat the matter with understanding and avoid politicising it, noting that extending service for non-compliance has been a long-standing practice.
Reaffirming its commitment, the statement concluded: “Nigeria is Ours; Nigeria We Serve.”
