Nwifuru’s Aide Commends Nworu’s Courageous Lagos-Abakaliki Peace Trekk

Senior Special Assistant to the Ebonyi State Governor on New Media, Mr. Leo Ekene Oketa, has commended Mr. Jeremiah Obaji Nworu for his bold pedestrian journey from Lagos to Abakaliki — a symbolic tribute to Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s peace-building efforts in the long-troubled Effium and Alioma communities.
In a statement titled “Jerry’s Walk of Courage and Conviction”, the SSA described Mr. Nworu’s journey as one of “unity, healing, and strength” and praised the symbolic value it holds for a people emerging from years of communal conflict.
According to Mr. Oketa, Jerry’s decision to embark on the long trek was a “personal expression of appreciation” for the Governor’s decisive steps in restoring peace to the Effium-Alioma axis, a conflict zone that had witnessed years of unrest.
“Jerry was once a staunch critic of Governor Nwifuru’s emergence,” the SSA noted, “but like the biblical Saul who became Paul, his transformation and resolve to honor peace efforts show immense courage and conviction.”
While acknowledging public debates around Jerry’s motives, Mr. Oketa emphasized that the journey should be seen as a living testimony of what happens “when leadership meets the will of the people.”
He further encouraged Jerry to remain steadfast, stating, “You carry more than just your footsteps — you carry the hope, gratitude, and voice of a people who have longed for peace.”
The statement ends with a heartfelt message to Jerry to travel safely, walk with purpose, and find strength in knowing that many are with him in spirit.
The ongoing walk continues to draw attention across the state and beyond, as residents and stakeholders laud Governor Nwifuru’s administration for achieving notable milestones in peace and reconciliation.
