Nwifuru Directs Council Chairmen to Clear Pensions, Salaries Arrears

Governor Francis Nwifuru has directed the chairmen of the 13 local government areas of Ebonyi State to pay all outstanding salaries and pensions of workers before 2 pm on Monday, December 23, 2024.
Nwifuru, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr Monday Uzor, and made available to newsmen, issued the directive on Sunday during the Elders and Widows’ Party, organised by the state government at the Christian Ecumenical Centre, Abakaliki.
The governor expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in paying salaries and pensions to local government staff, describing the situation as worrisome.
While emphasising his commitment to delivering good governance anchored on the Chartered Needs Agenda, the governor warned against any sabotage in executing the social contract with the people.
“By 2 pm tomorrow, all the staff of the local government should receive their salaries and pensions,” he stated.
“We are determined to deliver good governance to our people. If you are for us, you join us in what we are doing; if you are not, you leave.
“If by 2 pm tomorrow, staff are not paid October and November salaries, the chairmen should resign,” the governor insisted.
In a cheering development, Governor Nwifuru approved the immediate payment of N50,000, a 25kg bag of rice, and a wrapper to each of the 5,000 widows and elders who attended the party.
