Nwifuru Appeals for Compassion in PDP Member’s Case

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, has made a public plea to the Honourable Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Oguzorkanu Offia-Nwali, to consider showing leniency in the case involving Chika Nwoba.
Mr Nwifuru made this request in Abakaliki on Sunday, after attending a Holy Ghost Mass.
Background
Asiwaju Media reported when Mr Nwoba, a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, was arrested by the state police command for allegedly exposing the misappropriation of N3 billion by Mr. Nwali.
Mr Nwoba had raised concerns about the alleged misuse of funds designated for the empowerment of street vendors in the state.
He vowed to involve the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) if the state government failed to take action.
However, Mrs Nwali denied any wrongdoing, questioning the credibility of the allegations and suggesting ulterior motives behind Mr Nwoba’s accusations.
Bail
Mr Nwoba was recently granted bail under stringent conditions, including requiring two sureties to pay N5 million each should he abscond.
Also, the Court demanded the Secretary to the Ebonyi State Government provide a written undertaking ensuring Mr Nwoba’s availability to the court.
Governor’s directive
In response, Governor Nwifuru has urged the Secretary to State Government (SSG), Grace Umezurike, to comply with the court’s directives regarding Mr Nwoba’s bail conditions and act as a guarantor to ensure adherence.
The Governor’s plea comes in the wake of escalating tensions surrounding the case, with both sides steadfast in their positions.
