NSIB Begins Probe Into Abuja-Kaduna Train Derailment AS Six Injured

The Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has launched a full-scale investigation into the Abuja–Kaduna train derailment that caused panic among passengers on Tuesday morning.
The train, which left Abuja at about 11 a.m., derailed along the Kaduna corridor, leaving commuters scrambling in fear. Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with passengers rushing to safety in confusion.
According to the NSIB, six passengers sustained injuries, though no fatalities were recorded. In a statement, the Bureau’s Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance, Bimbo Oladeji, confirmed that a “go-team” has been dispatched to the site to gather evidence, engage stakeholders, and determine the cause of the accident.
NSIB Director-General, Alex Badeh Jr., expressed concern for those affected. “We deeply sympathise with all who sustained injuries. The Bureau has deployed investigators to the site to ensure the root cause of this derailment is uncovered. Our commitment is to ensure safer rail transport for Nigerians through a transparent and independent investigation,” Badeh said.
The Bureau added that the probe would cover both immediate and underlying factors behind the derailment, with recommendations expected to prevent future occurrences.
Meanwhile, Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, directed state agencies to provide immediate medical treatment and psycho-social support for injured passengers. Through a statement issued by the Commissioner of Information-designate, Ahmed Maiyaki, the governor called for calm, assuring residents that the situation was under control. He sympathised with victims and their families, pledging the government’s full support.
The Nigeria Railway Corporation also confirmed that six passengers sustained minor injuries and had been treated, though it was yet to determine the total number of passengers on board. Security operatives, including military personnel, were deployed to the scene to protect stranded passengers and assist in evacuations.
