No Free Passes As NYSC Lagos Enforces Strict Discipline

Barrister Yemisi Davidson, Assistant Director/ Head Corps Investigation Unit Under Corps Inspection and Monitoring Branch for NYSC Lagos, during her lecture, enlightened the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members about the NYSC bye-laws.
She highlighted that all platoons have both soft or digital and printed copies of these rules, making it easy for everyone to understand what is expected.
She emphasized in her words “It’s important for corps members to be familiar with these rules for both camp and off-camp activities”.
Barrister Yemisi stressed the need for strict discipline at camp.
Corps members must be on time; lateness is not allowed to every schedule in camp. She highlighted that leaving camp without permission from the State Coordinator is forbidden, and everyone should be at the lecture ground by 9 AM.
She also listed several things that are not allowed, such as gambling, possession of weapons, smoking or chewing during parades, and taking more than the allowed food rations.
There are serious consequences for breaking these rules. Penalties include suspension or an extension of service for unauthorized absences.
Missing 90 days may result in repeating the service year, and any money received from NYSC, other than camp allowances, must be refunded.
For international travel, corps members need to submit a letter to the NYSC Director General at least one month before traveling.
She reiterated on the rules for reporting to primary places of assignment (PPA). Corps members should provide their LGI’s contact details, avoid travel during the service year, and handle any issues with their PPA through the LGI.
Those posted to schools must follow specific rules, such as not engaging in immoral behavior and keeping official information private. She advised against conflicts and running for political offices during the NYSC service.
