“No Court Order Yet” — Senate Tells Natasha to Stay Away

The Nigerian Senate has warned suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against attempting to return to the chamber, insisting her suspension remains in effect and no court has ordered her recall.
In a statement released Sunday, Senate spokesperson Yemi Adaramodu emphasized that the Federal High Court ruling cited by the Kogi Central senator does not contain any directive compelling the Senate to reinstate her before the end of her suspension.
Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended in March 2025 following a heated confrontation over seat arrangements, during which she accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual misconduct—an allegation Akpabio strongly denied.
Although she has vowed to resume plenary on Tuesday, July 22, citing a judgment by Justice Binta Nyako, the Senate maintains the ruling was merely advisory and not enforceable.
“It is legally untenable that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan is attempting to act on a non-existent order,” Adaramodu stated. “There is no enforceable court directive mandating her immediate return.”
He further warned that any attempt by Akpoti-Uduaghan to forcefully re-enter the chamber would be considered a disruption and a violation of due process.
“The Senate will review the court’s advisory opinion at the appropriate time and will formally communicate its position to her,” he added. “Until then, she is advised to stay away and respect the institution’s internal processes.”
