Niniola Remembers Late Father, Opens Up About Trauma Of 1995 Murder

Nigerian singer Niniola has opened up about the heartbreaking memory of losing her father, retired Brigadier-General Simeon Apata, who was murdered in 1995.
She revealed that she was in the house when the tragic incident occurred and described the moment as a trauma she has never been able to fully overcome.
“I was my father’s favourite child. I was in the house that day when he was murdered. Till today, I have not gotten over it. I can never get over it. It wasn’t a good memory,” Niniola said.
The devastating experience left a lasting impact on her, shaping much of her emotional world growing up. Despite the pain, Niniola has honored her father’s memory through her life and career, carving out a successful path in the Nigerian music industry with her signature blend of Afrobeats and house music.
Her family continues to keep her father’s legacy alive, notably through the Apata Memorial Schools in Isolo, Lagos, established in his memory.
