NiMet Predicts Thunderstorms, Heavy Rains, and Possible Floods Across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has warned of thunderstorms, rainfall, and possible flash floods in several parts of the country between Monday and Wednesday.

According to NiMet, thunderstorms with moderate rainfall will hit northern states such as Jigawa, Zamfara, Kano, Kaduna, Bauchi, Yobe, and Katsina on Monday morning, spreading to Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba by the afternoon.

“Flash floods are possible in Bauchi, Jigawa, Katsina, Kaduna, and Kano States during this period,” NiMet warned.

For central states including Niger, Benue, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Plateau, and Nasarawa, the outlook shows cloudy skies in the morning with light to moderate rainfall later, while flooding remains a threat in parts of Plateau.

In the southern region, light to moderate rains are expected across Ondo, Imo, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.

By Tuesday, much of the north will experience sunny skies with patches of clouds, although thunderstorms and rain will persist in Adamawa, Taraba, and neighbouring areas. The central and southern zones will also record moderate rainfall.

NiMet added that by Wednesday, the northern states will begin the day with sunshine before thunderstorms return in the afternoon and evening hours.
