NiMet Forecasts Three Days of Thunderstorms, Moderate Rains Across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has projected a wet start to the new week, with thunderstorms and moderate rainfall expected across different regions of the country between Monday and Wednesday.
In its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, the agency said northern states such as Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba will experience isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains on Monday morning. More widespread thunderstorms are anticipated later in the day, with flash floods likely in Adamawa, Taraba, and Gombe.
For the central region, NiMet forecast a cloudy atmosphere with sunshine intervals on Monday morning, alongside moderate rainfall over Niger, Kogi, Kwara, the FCT, and Benue. Thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected later in the day.
In the South, cloudy skies are likely on Monday morning, with moderate rains in Ekiti, Ondo, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states. The rains are forecast to spread across most southern states before evening.
TUESDAY OUTLOOK
On Tuesday, the northern axis will open with cloudy skies and sunshine intervals. Isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected over Borno, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba, and Adamawa, while later in the day Kano, Jigawa, Yobe, Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Taraba will experience thunderstorms.
In the central region, cloudy skies with sunshine intervals are expected on Tuesday morning, with moderate rains in Kogi, Niger, the FCT, Kwara, and Nasarawa. More thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are forecast later in the day in Niger, Kogi, Kwara, Benue, and the FCT.
Southern states including Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, and Delta will see cloudy conditions with chances of moderate rains in the morning, followed by light to moderate rainfall across much of the region by evening.
WEDNESDAY OUTLOOK
By Wednesday, cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine are predicted over the North. There are slim chances of light rain and thunderstorms in Sokoto and Zamfara during the morning, while Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Sokoto will experience thunderstorms with moderate rains later in the day.
The central region is expected to have cloudy skies with sunshine intervals on Wednesday morning, with light rains in the FCT, Kogi, Kwara, and Niger. Later, Benue, Kwara, Kogi, and Niger are forecast to record thunderstorms with moderate rainfall.
In the South, cloudy skies are expected on Wednesday morning, giving way to moderate rainfall in the afternoon and evening.
SAFETY ADVISORY
NiMet advised motorists to avoid driving during heavy rainfall and urged farmers not to apply fertiliser or pesticides immediately before rain to prevent nutrient loss.
The agency further cautioned residents to fasten loose objects, disconnect electrical appliances, and avoid tall trees during storms. Airline operators were also advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports for effective operational planning.
NiMet encouraged the public to stay updated through its official website: www.nimet.gov.ng
