Nigerian Man Deported from Norway After Drug Smuggling Scandal, Now Earns ₦4,000 Daily as Waste Packer

A Nigerian man who once held a prestigious, fully funded scholarship to study in Norway has opened up about his heartbreaking journey from academic promise to life as a waste packer earning ₦4,000 a day back in Nigeria.
His story was captured in a video shared on X (formerly Twitter) by user @PH_Socials. In the emotional clip, the man recounts how his time in Europe spiraled out of control after falling in with the wrong crowd.
According to him, things took a dark turn when he got involved with individuals who were deeply entrenched in drug abuse and trafficking. He admitted that peer pressure and bad influence—especially from fellow Nigerians in the diaspora—led him to participate in smuggling drugs between Norway and Italy.
“At first, I was just observing. I saw some UK people smoking white crystal and marijuana. A man from Bayelsa encouraged me to join in drug movement,” he said.
His initial success earned him praise from some members of the Nigerian community in Norway. “During my second run, the Bayelsa people there were celebrating me,” he added. But his criminal activities eventually caught the attention of Norwegian authorities. He was arrested, convicted, and deported.
“They said Nigerians were bringing drugs into their country. I was expelled and sent back to Bayelsa,” he explained.
Now back in Nigeria, he works as a waste packer, collecting trash for local residents to earn a meager ₦4,000 each day. Despite his fall from grace, he maintains hope for a better future and dreams of securing a stable government job to turn his life around.
