Nigerian footballer secures 100k retweets for Sevilla FC trial, gets under-19 link instead

A Nigerian footballer, @TheRealOlagreat, recently caught the attention of Sevilla FC with a simple yet audacious request for a trial.
In response, Sevilla playfully challenged him to gather 100,000 retweets on his tweet, promising to grant him a trial if he succeeded.
Determined to meet the target, Nigerians on X (formerly Twitter) rallied behind him, making the tweet go viral and far exceeding the required 100,000 retweets in less than 24 hours.

However, instead of honoring their promise, Sevilla FC responded by sharing a link to register for an under-19 team—a move that sparked outrage, as the Nigerian footballer is well above the age limit.
The footballer’s original tweet specifically requested a trial with Sevilla’s main team.
The promise of 100,000 retweets was met with overwhelming support from Nigerians, who mobilized to help him achieve the goal. Expectations were high, with many eagerly awaiting an official trial invitation.
When Sevilla FC eventually responded with the under-19 registration link, Nigerians took to the comments section to express their disappointment and frustration.
Many criticized the club for failing to honor its word and accused it of misleading the footballer.
The incident has since ignited a conversation about fairness and accountability in football engagements.
