Nigeria Wins Unity Cup After Dramatic Penalty Shootout Against Jamaica

On Saturday, May 31, 2025, Nigeria’s Super Eagles clinched the Unity Cup title with a thrilling 5–4 victory over Jamaica in a penalty shootout at Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium in London.
The match ended 2–2 after regular time, marking Nigeria’s second consecutive Unity Cup win.
Moses Simon gave Nigeria an early lead in the 9th minute, but Jamaica quickly equalized through Kaheim Dixon. In the second half, Samuel Chukwueze put Nigeria ahead again, only for Jonathan Russell to level the score for Jamaica, sending the game into penalties.

During the shootout, both teams scored their first four penalties. The turning point came when Jamaica’s Dwayne Atkinson missed his attempt by hitting the crossbar. Nigeria’s debutant, Christantus Uche, then calmly converted the winning penalty, securing the trophy for the Super Eagles.
This victory marks Nigeria’s third Unity Cup title, adding to their previous wins in 2002 and 2004.
