Netizens Slam Peter Obi’s Silence Over Killing of Ebonyi Indigenes in Anambra

A wave of criticism has trailed former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, over his silence following the brutal killing of several Ebonyi State indigenes in Ogboji, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Social media platforms have erupted with outrage as many Nigerians, including political commentator Amb. Nwede Chinoso, accused Obi of selective outrage and political bias in his public statements.

In a post that has since gone viral, Chinoso expressed shock that, nearly 48 hours after the attack, Obi—who is known for quickly reacting to national issues—has yet to comment on the tragedy.

“Peter Obi tackled the President yesterday over insecurity in Yobe and demonstrations in Kwara, yet he has remained mute on the killings of Ebonyi indigenes in Anambra,” Chinoso wrote. “I called him out not out of hatred, but because he is always quick to stir emotions when it suits him politically.”

He further claimed that Obi only tends to speak on incidents after being pressured by critics such as Reno Omokri, adding that the Labour Party figure should learn to be more strategic and less reactionary in his communication.

Chinoso described the killings as “barbaric and unacceptable,” calling on both the Anambra and Ebonyi State governments to immediately investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice. He also called on security agencies to avoid complacency and take urgent action to prevent further escalation.

Beyond the political silence, Chinoso lamented deep-rooted ethnic bias against Ebonyi people in parts of Anambra State. Recounting his own experience, he said: “I was born and raised in Anambra. My birth certificate bears Anambra State, yet I’ve seen how Abakaliki people are looked down on. The hatred some Anambraians have for us leaves me with many questions.”

The killings, reportedly carried out in broad daylight while victims were holding meetings, have sparked renewed concerns about insecurity in the South-East and rising tensions between neighbouring communities.

Chinoso concluded with a warning: “This bloodshed is one too many. If the attackers are not identified and dealt with swiftly, I fear it may snowball into something worse. God forbid.”

As of press time, Peter Obi is yet to issue any public statement regarding the Ogboji killings.
