The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has provided financial relief for students of the African Aviation and Aerospace University (AAAU) in Abuja, with the disbursement of ₦6,972,000 to 10 beneficiaries.
Announcing the development in a statement on Tuesday, the Fund reaffirmed its dedication to expanding access to higher education.
“We are pleased to announce the disbursement of ₦6,972,000.00 to 10 beneficiaries at African Aviation and Aerospace University (AAAU), Abuja, Nigeria,” it said, stressing its commitment to supporting institutions and empowering learners across the country.
The management of AAAU, in a statement signed by its Registrar, Mustapha Abdul, confirmed the payment was made on Monday, July 21, 2025.
“We deeply appreciate this timely intervention, which will significantly ease the financial burdens of our beneficiaries and enhance their ability to focus on their academic pursuit,” the school stated.
NELFUND was created under the Student Loans (Access to Higher Education) Act, signed into law by President Bola Tinubu on April 3, 2024, with a mandate to make higher education and skill development more accessible to Nigerian youth.
On the broader scale, the Federal Government disclosed on Monday that over ₦59 billion has already been disbursed to students nationwide through the Fund, with more than 600,000 students enrolled.
Speaking in Asaba, the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, reinforced the government’s pledge to ensure no Nigerian is left behind because of tuition fees.
He said the government’s position remains clear: “no qualified Nigerian should be denied tertiary education for lack of fees.”
