The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has reaffirmed the pivotal role of the ICT sector in driving Nigeria’s socio-economic and technological advancement.
This assertion was made by the Commission’s Executive Vice Chairman, Dr Aminu Maida, during the commissioning of a state-of-the-art ICT centre at Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
Dr Maida, who was represented by the Director of Special Duties, Dr Shuaibu Suwade, said the ICT centre was built by the NCC to revolutionise teaching and learning by providing seamless access to digital resources within the university community.
According to him, ICT centres have become indispensable to modern universities, enabling innovation, research, and administrative efficiency.
He noted that the project delivers essential infrastructure and tools that empower students, faculty, and staff to excel in a digitally connected world.

In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of Usman Danfodiyo University, Prof. Bashir Garba, represented by Prof. Mahuta, expressed gratitude to the federal government and the NCC.
He noted that the centre would enhance interdisciplinary collaboration, especially in fields such as artificial intelligence and biotechnology.
The vice chancellor added that the initiative would also prepare students for the digital workforce by equipping them with critical technological skills such as programming, data analytics, and digital literacy, positioning graduates to meet the evolving demands of the industry.
