NCC commissions e-health project at Ondo hospital

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) says its e-health initiative will significantly transform healthcare delivery across hospitals in the country.

Speaking during the commissioning of an electronic healthcare facility at the State Specialist Hospital in Akure, Ondo State, the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Dr Aminu Maida—represented by the Commission’s Project Director, Mr Philip Eretan—described the project as a major step toward integrating technology into Nigeria’s healthcare system.

Maida explained that the initiative is part of the NCC’s broader strategy to leverage Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to improve and modernise healthcare access and efficiency across the country.

“The completion of this e-health project is a testament to the NCC’s commitment to driving innovation, research, and growth in our nation’s digital economy,” he stated.

According to him, the initiative offers a twofold advantage: bringing the healthcare sector into Nigeria’s growing digital economy and fostering healthier citizens who can contribute more effectively to national development.

“By integrating advanced ICT solutions into healthcare, we enhance the quality of medical services and ensure access for all, regardless of location,” Maida added.

He emphasised that the project aims to streamline medical processes, improve patient care, and enable efficient health records management.

Maida also noted the success of the project was made possible through collaboration with key stakeholders, suggesting that the model could be scaled and replicated across the country.

In his remarks, the Acting Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Adesina Akintan, represented by Dr Ndidi Okunnuga, Director of Research and Training, described the project as unprecedented.
