NCAA investigate landing of Abuja-bound aircraft in Delta

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has summoned the management of United Nigeria Airlines to a meeting over Sunday’s incident where one of its airplane bound for Abuja diverted to the Asaba International Airport in Delta State.
In the interim, the NCAA has suspended all the airline’s wetleased aircraft from operation and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
In a statement, the Director General of Civil Aviation, Captain Musa Nuhu said the investigation is to seek clarification on what actually happened, as there are conflicting reasons for the flight diversion.
According to him, preliminary steps have been taken pending the conclusions of the ongoing investigation.
He assured the travelling public that it would leave no stone unturned, as it has always done in the past, to ensure the continued safety of the aviation industry.
FG to sanction erring regulators in Aviation sector
In a related development, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo said the investigative report into the incident would be made public in ten days.
He stated this during a meeting with the Chief Executive Officers of Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) in Abuja.
Mr Keyamo pointed out that the Ministry remained sensitive to concerns raised by Nigerians regarding the sector and pointed out that there was no excuse for incidents that were not acts of God.
He maintained that it was obvious that someone did not carry out necessary duties and that there would be a review, technical reports, as well as appropriate sanctions to ensure the adequate safety of Nigerians.
On flight delays and cancellations, the minister stated that a committee had been set up to ensure adequate compensation and that there would be weekly publications on them.
